COVID-19 has made an impact on all of our lives, even if you never got sick yourself. We all know people who got really sick or maybe even lost their lives to this frustrating virus. While we are grateful that the pandemic’s emergency status is no longer needed, it doesn’t mean that COVID-19 isn’t still out there.
In fact, COVID-19 cases are rising across the country, especially here in the South. Everyone is vulnerable to getting sick, so staying vigilant and taking preventive steps is important.
Our AFC Urgent Care NC team explains more about COVID-19 below, so refresh your memory on the virus so you are ready for the seasons ahead.
Is COVID-19 Testing Still Important?
Of course it is! You never want to get others sick if you can prevent it, so testing remains the most reliable way of figuring out what you are sick from. If you do have COVID-19, you can remove yourself from work and school and avoid contact with any vulnerable people in your life. Older adults and people with compromised immune systems continue to be at a higher risk of serious or even deadly infections.
You can come see us for a quick test any day of the week! No appointment is needed and you can just stop by when you aren’t feeling well. Our COVID-19 rapid test can be administered in seconds and you can have your results in as little as 15 minutes.

What Can I Do to Prevent COVID-19?
The best way to prevent the serious effects of COVID-19 is to be vaccinated. If you received your initial vaccine series, you should focus on staying current with recommended boosters. The latest boosters will be available beginning in late September or October.
The vaccine is really reliable at helping you avoid a COVID-19 infection, but it is not a 100% guarantee. Breakthrough infections do still happen, but the chances of you experiencing severe symptoms is drastically reduced. However, be on the lookout for any warning signs of a serious infection just in case.
